Squarespace 3.4 Release

An interim release while we prep for very large feature changes in 3.5. Here’s what’s changed:

  • Gallery Module Improvements — Larger gallery images are now resized according to the width of your layout. You no longer need to do any image resizing before uploading. Galleries now have graphical navigation, and option to enable “lightboxes” (full screen image views without leaving the browser window), and have more items per page on the thumbnail pages. To have your gallery images re-processed for higher quality, select the resizing option from Structure & Style > General Configuration > Advanced.
  • Amazon Item Module Improvements — Searching for an Amazon item no longer requires you to leave the Squarespace interface. You can also select an Amazon server to use on a per-module basis, instead of relying on Squarespace’s locale based recommendation.
  • RSS Feed Adjustment — Renamed an RSS feed element that was causing Feed Validator to complain about a missing email address. All RDF, ATOM, and RSS feeds on Squarespace validate properly.
  • References in RSS — References (the Source and Related types) are now included in your RSS feeds.
  • Entry Title Re-Ordering — An option was added to General Configuration allowing for journal entry titles to be re-ordered — potentially resulting in increased search engine exposure.
  • Access Logs / Logins — The login event on the access log now tracks which user logged in to your site.
  • Smarter Domain Redirection — To improve coherence / search engine exposure — Squarespace will now redirect users to your primary domain if they access your site through any of your secondary domains.
  • Image Hotlinking Options — Options were added to General Storage and File Modules that enable you to turn on image hotlinking protection on a per-module basis.
  • Recent Comments Scrollable — You can now access older pages of comments within Comment & Post Management.
  • XML-RPC Compatibility Improvements — The XML-RPC endpoint was re-tested with Ecto, Windows Live Writer, and BlogJet to improve on compatibility.
  • Development/Production Mode Removed from Template Editing — Templates are now always in Production Mode, and are refreshed when a change is made — so this setting has been removed. Additionally, a bug was fixed that relates to templates reverting back to older states in some circumstances after updates if Production Mode was left enabled.

About 20 more minor bug fixes are included as well. We’ve got a very aggressive release schedule planned for November/December that includes many of the most requested features (items like public registration, form creation/collection, and search). Stay tuned :)
